Why we built a WhatsApp bot instead of an API or a website

The average Indian milkman already spends 2-3 hours per day on WhatsApp — taking orders, sending bills, coordinating delivery. Asking them to "visit a website" or "open an app" to check today's milk rate is friction. Asking them to type a city name into a WhatsApp chat they already have open is friction-free. That is why this bot exists: it meets people where they already are.

Where the rates come from

Every morning at 6:30 AM IST, our data pipeline ingests milk procurement rates from 12 official sources:

  • Amul — daily procurement price circular (Gujarat + 8 other states).
  • Mother Dairy — NCR and eastern India retail feed.
  • State federations: Sudha (Bihar), Nandini (Karnataka), Aavin (Tamil Nadu), Saras (Rajasthan), Verka (Punjab), Vita (Haryana), Milma (Kerala).
  • Local dairy contacts — 40+ village collection centres across the country send us morning prices via WhatsApp.
  • User submissions — verified and published after cross-check.

How accurate are the rates?

We publish the rate with ±5% accuracy for all covered cities. Within each city, real rates vary between dairies — what the bot gives is the "median quoted rate" from our sources. It is a reference number for negotiation, not a legally binding quote. For your own dairy's rate, always check with your federation or collection centre.

Is the bot live right now?

Not yet — we are in early access with a small group of dairy owners in Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat as of April 2026. Join the waitlist by tapping the WhatsApp button on this page. We are adding cities in batches and will message you the day your city goes live. In the meantime, the full Milk Price Heatmap (dudhhisaab.com/tools/milk-price-heatmap) shows static rates for all 60+ cities and works today.

Which cities are supported?

Currently 60+ Indian cities across MP, UP, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Punjab, Haryana, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Bihar, West Bengal and the Northeast. Type "cities" into the bot for the full list. New cities are added every month based on user demand.

How often are the rates updated?

Daily at 7 AM IST. Rates come from a mix of official state dairy federation circulars (Amul, Sudha, Nandini, Aavin etc.), local dairy contacts and user submissions. We also show retail milk prices for reference — useful for comparing your margin.

Is my phone number stored?

Only your WhatsApp ID is stored, so we can deliver replies and alerts. We never share it with third parties, sell it, or run marketing SMS to it. You can send "stop" to delete all your data from our system instantly.

What is the difference between the bot and the Milk Price Heatmap tool?

The bot gives you instant rates for one city at a time via WhatsApp. The Milk Price Heatmap (dudhhisaab.com/tools/milk-price-heatmap) shows all cities on one visual map with historical data. Use the bot on the go, and the heatmap when you need to compare regions.

Can I submit my local rate to help other users?

Yes! Send "submit" followed by your city, milk type, procurement rate and retail rate. Example: "submit Bhopal buffalo 43 70". We verify and publish it in the next daily update with credit to you (optional).
